Detroit Mercy Dentistry offers an option for patients who can accommodate longer appointments in exchange for reduced fees. At the University of Detroit Mercy's dental center, students provide treatment with oversight from licensed faculty. Admission begins with a screening to assess whether the clinic can manage the patient's needs. The screening is free, although X-rays may cost extra. Patients accepted return for a comprehensive exam and a written treatment plan. Because this is a teaching environment, appointments may last three hours and require multiple visits.
An additional program may help pregnant patients and those who gave birth within the past year obtain certain dental services at no cost when they meet documentation and insurance requirements. Eligible care may include cleanings, fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures; implants and bridges are excluded. The student clinic also treats gum disease and offers tooth replacement services through appropriate departments. Call ahead about screening appointments, Medicaid coverage, and expected visit frequency. Bring identification, insurance information, and a current medication list.
